Influence : Systems thinking

In most systems of flows and pool, increasing or decreasing the size of pool is the objective.

The principle is to focus on the size of pool and not what makes up the pool.

Retention is a good to have not the primary objective.

Primary objective is always to focus on size of pool.

For example in case of cash, you wanna increase your cash stock by increasing cash inflows and reducing outflows.

Or incase of customer complaints you want to decrease the number of total active complaints by not having more pile in and closing current ones.

Influence can see seen as as having a pool of valuable people who see you favorably enough to value your input or ask.

These are people who remember you in a good light.

They may act on your suggestions, respond to your call to actions, or support what you say.

That is the pool.

The pool does not stay constant.

People in the pool degrade naturally over time.

They forget why they liked you or move on.

They stop paying attention.

That is called outflow.

Outflow happens even if you do nothing.

Outflow happens even if you stay silent.

Outflow happens just because time passes.

There fore if you are not generating new inflow, the pool will shrink.

Inflow might as well be more important than retention in context of this system of influence.

If you are not adding new favorable impressions, the pool will decay.

If you hesitate to take action because of someone already in the pool, you are blocking inflow.

To not do something fearing ridicule or upset from some person within your pool is unwise.

You are giving weight to someone who will most likely leave anyway.

This is unwise.

It is a bad trade.

You are holding back something new for the sake of something fading.

That is a losing position.

But this does not mean it is only about numbers.

Some people in the pool carry more value than others.

Some people have high reach, leverage, or importance.

You cannot blindly sacrifice someone who brings the value of a hundred people.

You have to know the weight of each person in the pool.

You have to act with that in mind.

But you also have to keep moving.

Inflow is the only thing that keeps the pool alive.

Because outflow never stops.

Because time always takes people away.

So you act.

So you post.

So you show up.

Even if someone leaves.

Even if someone disapproves.

You do it because that is the system.

You cannot build influence by clinging to the current content of the pool.

You build influence by expanding the scale of the pool.

You build it by making sure new favorable impressions keep entering.

The content of the pool will always shift.

The scale of the pool is what gives you power.

That is what you prioritize.

Prioritise the scale of pool not the content.

You increase your inflow by taking visible actions that create new favorable impressions.

You speak where people can hear you.

You show your work where people can see it.

You make things that others find useful, clear, or emotionally sharp.

You repeat signals that reinforce your presence across different moments.

You stay in motion so there are always fresh entries into the pool.

You create reasons for people to remember you in a good light.

This is the only reliable way to increase the size of the pool.

You have to educate the world with your actions who you are.

All eyes on Inflow.

All action for Instruments of inflow.
