Broll

God bless America and God bless B rolls

Goddamn I have not seen anything more liberating when it comes to content creation than B roll

Go out there shoot your own B roll or get someone else’s

And just talk over it

You can look like a sewer rat when you’re recording that audio

You can have all your weird eye movements lip twitches and messy while you are recording the audio and it still doesn’t affect your end video??????

God damn that is gonna make me bust w happiness

You can explore a wide range of topics with effort that is significantly lower than if you would always talk in front of an camera

Recording a video and audio at the same time is a painful process

Especially when you want things to not derail like they do in gameplay videos Where derailment is a significant contributor in entertainment value

Some videos users want them to be surgically perfect

Where your face looks a certain way and you say the words in a certain way with both of those things happening at the same time

But you can get the same effect by shooting yourself perfectly once and then using that same video thousands of time with recordings of audio

Recordings which are significantly easier to produce perfectly because you don’t have to account for your face in them

It’s like refactoring a piece of code instead of one huge file doing everything you have 2 files doing something very elegantly together

Plus it also helps you to double down on what works

If a certain set of B roll works well then you can just spamming it and keep exploring different topics via varied audio

Shoot videos once and reuse them infinitely with a wide range of audio

Focus purely on what you’re saying and how you’re saying it instead of worrying about the lighting, the facial expressions and whatever bullshit happens while recording visuals

Once you have a library of good B-roll (whether you shot it or sourced it), you can pump out content exploring wildly different topics while maintaining visual polish.

It’s essentially building a content system rather than crafting bespoke unique pieces every single time.

You iterate only on ideas, not production.

It also pushes you toward more consistent themes, tones, and visual identity because you’re repeatedly using the same set of strong materials.
