People watch or follow you on social media only if you are providing exceptional value or saying something controversial or have some motion going on for you
Well controversy is not my strongest forte
Not do I think there is exceptionally valuable about naive 23 year old who is just trying out stuff
That’s why I show the motion I have
I am young, I am from a great college and I got a good finance job going on for me post graduation
Though these things don’t mean much to me
But they mean a lot to the audience
The perception changes when they know these things about me
But these things only act as a hook and beyond hook you need to have something substantial going on for yourself
That’s why I have to show some motion like hey I am building this thing
Hey this is the progress
Hey these are the peoples I’m currently talking with and this might happen
Motion is great because it builds something tangible for you and also garners attention online
That’s why the 100 day challenge thing has potential
Not because you’re making 100 videos but you have to show a journey
Something that is in motion
If you keep making videos without showing any motion then it defeats the point
That means each video has to talk about what you’re doing, the current situation and what you’re doing next and the suspense it creates
You have to portray your chain of event in a very engaging manner
That means you have to be on a big journey
You have to be audacious and keep the snowball rolling and getting bigger
Motion creates narrative, and narrative is what keeps people watching.
Static expertise or content w no journey gets boring fast
So even if you have nothing going for yourself you have to utter something that is very audacious and if you try you might fail but if you win it has huge payoff
And these are the situations that you are supposed to create content about
You kind of have to develop a sense for what is audacious and what can be attempted
What could be the payoff and how to frame it for a video
If you’re just a college student right now then you can talk about building something
When you are building something you can be audacious about how you are reaching out to some big guy and the collaboration might change everything
Talking about past motion can help too
You can talk about how you gained zero to 100 users and what you learnt from it
Thus the game becomes narrating:
- your past motion
- your current situation and stakes
- future predicted motion
You cannot just keep talking about hey I’m building XYZ
You have to talk about the motion it has accumulated
that hey I got N users and it taught me this
hey I’m currently approaching these people
hey I’m currently making this feature and I think it will give me this much target audience
Keep talking about the motion you already got and the future motion you are targeting and what you’re doing for it
Same with posting yourself 100 days, you cannot just talk about posting
You have to talk about the motion it got you
the new conversations it unlocked
what getting 10 new followers meant to you and how others can do it
what you are planning to do to go from 100 subscribers to a million subscribers
Be audacious
talk a lot
talk your shit bro
you are so much
Having good motion going for yourself also signals to external stakeholders
That hey this guy is a safe bet
He’s going to keep blowing up
That’s how you can weaponize your ambition and relentlessness in this world
By showcasing it to the world
And to be honest, no one is watching Ronaldo, Kohli or Connor McGregor because its aspirational
They watch for the motion
They watch for the glory, the spectacle and the march
Give them that
