Jenga tower

A lot of things in life are such that you just cannot keep criticizing it and accept it as is, and go forward building it from how it is right now. You cannot keep finding flaws in it and say we need to change how it is right now. That we need to start from scratch. No, that’s not how most things are in life. You accept how it is and you keep playing the hand you have.

It’s like a game of Jenga tower. You don’t say that this structure is not stable. Let’s start from something else. No, you play going forward as the tower is. You try to make it better. That’s why I love people who have more positive things to say than criticisms or pointing out the lacking in something. Of course that thing lacks in substance or a few qualities, but it is up to us to make it work.

I love people who are anti-jinx. A person who instead of saying how it couldn’t work can figure out ten different ways in which it is good and can work. Because when we keep doing that type of mental activity for hundreds of things, something is bound to work even if it is not likely to if thought via traditional mindset.

Next time someone presents you with an idea or a business plan or writing manuscript, it is not your job to criticize it or to tell what could have been or what should be instead. You could be a facilitator that allows them to see what can work going forward, what is working right now, what makes it so special, and the potential you see in it. Same for your own work

Do not play the game, but if you have decided to play… be anti jinx and take no shit

Because progress happens only when you stick to something and keep working on it. That is not possible when every time you have something in your hands, you think it is shit and something else becomes a shiny object. You have to commit to the bit, and it comes when you have such a positive mindset and not such a bratty, complaining bullshit going on in your head or intake of such bullshit from other people.

Compound interest can only happen if you stick with the principal amount, even if it is very sketchy. You can build a building only if you commit to the piece of land. If you keep bitching about the piece of land and keep switching it, you would never have a building.

As a human, you are a wonderful being, and you can make the best out of anything you get. We have a spirit in us that can help us shape anything into something greater than what it is right now, and that greatness can always be enough for us to get what we want. So maybe what you get or what you decide to work on is non-trivial. It is you who is the important piece. Everything else is transient. You just have to apply yourself and get what you want. You are the real method. Everything else – the hand you are dealt with, the current starting condition, and all its flaws and pros – they are trivial. The only variables that actually matter in this process once you are committed are You, your time and your efforts. You can become a rockstar tomorrow, you can become an entrepreneur tomorrow, you can become a pro-golf player tomorrow, you can become a politician tomorrow. All with shady hands, but it will all still work out because you focused on the variables that mattered.
