Parkinson’s Law says that based on the deadline, we adjust the amount of work we do. So no matter what the task is, we complete it within the deadline we give ourselves.
I think that is the same for the emotions that we want to feel. Our mind will populate us with feelings and interpretations of scenarios and responses based on the end emotion we want to feel.
Like if someone wants to feel the intensity, if they want to feel the hype, then the brain is going to give you that. It will make you feel all the things in a way more exaggerated way, make you feel like you have less options so that each step feels dramatic, everything feels like make or break.
If you want to feel calm, it will purposefully remain stoic. It will ignore certain things and focus on the optionality you have. Sometimes it can backfire in the way of neglecting certain things.
But I believe intensity should never be the end goal because we are able to feel negative emotions for way longer than we can feel joy. It’s easier to be depressed about something for years than it is to be happy about something for mere hours.
Have a goal to be happy and calm. That way, you will enjoy the life you have. You will socialize, you will build, you will create, you will be healthy.
