Put it in step 3

A few days ago, I came up with a line, and I think it deserves its own article.

Adoption is king, and to be adopted, you have to sit right into your users’ workflow. Plus, people would rather shoot their dog than change their behavior.

If the user’s workflow is 10-step long, and the third step involves them clicking a button, you have to figure out how you can abstract steps after step three and make them happen just with a click of a button in step three.

You can have your own physical boundary that hey you can automate from step 4 to step 6 or step 7. You don’t need to automate till step 10. Whatever you can do, do it.

This is exactly how you can compress time-to-value and time-to-effort while maximizing adoption.

Give them more without having to do anything different.

Alot of times people would rather do the same thing than do something different, even if it takes less time and efforts

  • 10x better product requiring workflow change = maybe 0 adoption rate
  • 0x better product that fits existing workflow = maybe 10x adoption rate
