It definitely does not have to be perfect.

I’ve been thinking about sales and marketing, and I was looking at it like, “Hey, I need 5x ROS. I need this type of pitch, I need this type of funnel, whatever whatever.”

First of all, you don’t need that to make money. You’re just being dumb as fuck if you want those as prerequisites to even starting.

And actually, the bar to make money might be even lower. There are tens of millions of salespeople out there, right? Few are really good, really, really good. You aspire to be like them, you want results like them.

But hey, those are not the only ones that are actually making money. Average performers, even the sloppy ones, even the ones who are not optimizing, who are just sleeping here and there are actually making money.

Their pitches are not optimized, their call-to-actions are not in place. What they are doing is not perfect, but it is still getting the results. It is still bringing in the money.

Plus they have been doing okay because we see sales rising globally, not declining. So even if they are bad at it, it is not really hampering growth, is it?

That means, if you are not doing business before, if you are thinking, “I need to establish a pristine sales motion,” then no you don’t. Just go and start. Even with your sloppy pitch, you can close people because millions of people already have. You don’t need a perfect script. You don’t need a perfect hook, body, or call-to-action. You just need something, and you need to put it in front of someone. And for that, you need distribution. And I have overthought distribution also, but you don’t need perfect distribution. There might be millions of people who engineer these distribution systems. Of course, same logic here that there are millions of them. Top ones do really well, but even the average ones get the results, and that is enough to make money

You have to understand these are systems. Systems that work even if they themselves are mediocre or the people working in those systems are mediocre. Just having a running system is enough!

I have seen myself holding a lot of information that I’m more prone to buying books from Amazon than taking action, than recording and posting. It’s almost like information, or learning, or preparation is valued way higher than actual execution. And that has not led to much progress.

On the other hand, I know that people in systems don’t have much information about anything other than their role. But yet, they are more effective. Basically, action is way more valuable than information because even with a lack of information, action can lead to results. But information without any action doesn’t render anything.

So go make a scrappy product, go make a scrappy distribution plan, go make a scrappy sales pitch, and execute it.

You definitely have to let go of any weird schooltime tendencies you have. You have to stop acting like a straight-A student, you have to stop acting like a perfectionist, you have to stop acting like there is an object to score out there, and you have to score maximum in it. Stop treating this like school. Stop treating it like results. Your parents and relatives are going to talk about it. It is not an assignment; your teacher is going to scold you over. This is a very personal thing where the only thing matters is the amount of money you make, and it is totally disconnected from what definition of quality you might have inherited.

It’s not like school assignment or exam where the more time is put into preparing for it, the better your score will be. No, no, no, no, no. Here, the more you do, the more you will get. And what you “do” does not have to be perfect. In fact, it better not be perfect because perfect means you could have not spent time making it perfect and done more. Just like you have developed the mindset of anti-jinx and looking at everything like it’s a game of Jenga Towers. You have to start being anti-prep also. You just have to say fuck it, we ball, and do it!

Just like having too good of a conversion rate means you are not charging high enough, having too perfect of a product distribution system or sales pitch means you are not doing enough and just prepping too much.
