Mediums and creation.

I realized now that Instagram is a platform for fundamentally emotional and unable to deal with boredom type of person. So much so that they will keep continuing the use of that platform at the cost of them not being able to create anything. The higher friction the medium, the more help it will give in terms of creation. It’s a pecking order such that books, lectures, YouTube videos, and then reels. The higher up the chain you are, the more creative potential that medium has. You might read just one or two pages of a book, and it just pushes you into a chain of thoughts that will help you create more than whatever would come out of you after you watch two hours of reels. So yeah, choose wisely. Because the higher the friction, the more committed you are to the subject matter that the media is discussing. If you’re watching a how-to-do video on Instagram, you are already displaying that you are not really committed to give the thing at least hours’ worth of prep to do it. Maybe it’s something simple, then fine. But also reels can be a great source of insights. That’s why they make you emotional, that sometimes the things that it puts in front of you, they just hit you in your face, and that’s really good. A lot of media is not able to do it. So everything has its time and place, but reels won’t help you with creation at all.
