Video topic is never an isolated abstract thing
It is always about some huge TAM
all the reels i see on my feed are same
Huge TAMs like gym, AI, thirst traps, travel, motivation, protests, politics, war
Essentially you are supposed to have video which targets a tam that is accessible on the platform you are running your content on and your content should have language which is culturally popping off and really easily understood by this audience. Along with characteristics like having a face or really attractive or funny or interesting thing in a video.
For example qoves,
The thing to understand here is that Videos of qoves are like really high-tam.
They talk about Aesthetics of country, of celebrities, of really popular features. It can be said to not be even talking about faces, they are talking about countries, they are talking about celebrities, they are talking about Stereotypes
The tam is really huge And then they have a face attached to it in a way
QOVES borrows reach from celebrities, countries and cultural debates, then compounds that reach by making the topic personally relevant to the viewer.
High tam -> your speciality -> viewer themselves
In odessy i was trying to feel my own life via analogy in that film
I made that film about me to make it feel it more intensely
One of the most believed, one of the most powerful most influential thing in the world is religion.
but what does it do?
It makes you think about you.
It is meditative, it makes you focus on to yourself
It makes you think: am i a sinner? am i a good person? am i following god’s law?
We vicariously live through the stories and myth, apply analogies and feel the intensity in our own life via consuming the spectacles that are in religious texts.
So the one key characteristic of religion is it is meditative,
It makes you focus on yourself, It takes all this attention and makes you live through it and makes you think about yourself while you are going through it
I think that is what really good storytelling is. It starts with a high TAM because you’re supposed to survive the algorithms, Then you’re supposed to prove your worth or maintain your niche by talking about your own specific lens or speciality.
But you have to then converge it all into something the user can live vicariously through or focus on to himself with.
Maybe a dream you show them or Insecurity you highlight or epic you narrate in which they imagine themselves or a play analogy of their own life
The storytelling becomes exponentially powerful when somehow it becomes about them
Borrowed attention → proprietary lens → personal mirror
- Borrowed attention: Start with an existing pool of desire, anxiety or conflict—celebrities, countries, AI, gender, status, war, religion.
- Proprietary lens: Interpret it through your speciality. For QOVES, that lens is facial aesthetics.
- Personal mirror: Make viewers evaluate their own self, feelings, status, desirability or identity.\
I recognize this > I have never understood it this way >Wait, what does this mean about me?
What large pool of attention should I borrow from
What can I uniquely say or explain about it
What will it force viewers to notice about themselves?
Kind of like a Venn diagram of something being one big tam and proper language two platform specific parameters like okay face music hook etc third being your niche slash lens like your own spice to it and fourth is it is meditative and self-reflection inducing type
