We see a lot of sports clips where a football player might be touched slightly by the opposing player and he just falls down and pretends as if it was the most violent attack.
It happens because of necessity.
The football game is such that something is always happening
Everyone is nearing exhaustion and it’s really demanding.
That means information that is communicated will lose a lot of its characteristics basically it’s a noisy environment and information transfer will result in a noisy transmission.
So if someone touches you and you think it’s a foul the best thing you can do is not to just calmly call to ref and say hey he touched me.
That’s too long too complicated and very low probability of being understood and registered
But if you just throw a fucking tantrum everybody is bound to notice
It it’s like they are investing so much surplus emotion and intensity into their communication that it is not easy to ignore them
When you look at a footballer throwing a tantrum on the field you just know that okay something happened to that player that they deem is worth foul
It’s just a language that footballers developed.
We see this happening in social media also
faces people make in their videos, all of the yelling they do in their videos
It’s just out of necessity
The target audience, they have is just not able to pay attention to them without this surplus of intensity and emotion
Maybe the pattern here is that Over the top emotions, cringe, highly expressive faces, loudness is just the cost of legibility in some contexts.
As attention becomes scarcer and the communication channel becomes noisier, signals must become more emotionally redundant to survive transmission.
You gotta create spectacles to survive these noisy environments.
