AI writing is complicated.

You’ll always find good advice resonated throughout times. When you look at copywriters talking about writing, they will always say, Don’t try to be too clever. Write something simple. Write something everybody understands. Then you see it in books talking about Napoleon, how he used to dictate to priests what to write, how to write, blah blah blah. In that also, he had the principle that write it as simply as possible so that more number of people can access it, and the more that message that you want to circulate around the masses can circulate. So this is exactly the reason why AI writing fails. So AI tries hard to be clever. I don’t know why that is, but whenever it writes something, it almost feels like a jaw with a few missing teeth. What I mean by that is whenever AI writes something, it will miss out on a lot of context. There will be gaps in the story it is trying to tell, and it will have filler sentences that look as if they’re contributing, but they don’t. So imagine you are talking with an AI, you developed a story, and then you tell it to turn it into an article. So you created the article, you have the context in your head, and when AI makes the article and you read it or review it, wherever there are context gaps, you will fill it up. But to the reader, who does not have the same context as you, those gaps are so apparent that the whole article is something really abrupt and full of holes that they cannot fill on their own. So it becomes something that is not simple. It turns into a puzzle where they just can’t figure it out. So even in the pursuit of trying to write something simple by making the AI write it, you have introduced so many holes inside it that it has turned into complicated. So that is why in the modern day, whenever you tell AI to write this way or that way, even if you tell it to write simply or whatever, the words change, sure. It might switch between the French and the English words. Whatever. It might do those changes. It might write in smaller, simpler sentences. But the context gap is what is surviving and fucking everything up. And this is why I saw one poll saying that at the start of introduction of AI, the written content was doing really well, but now it’s like at the rock bottom. I think it was an infographic from Neil Patel, and it explains why. Because it is full of context gaps that turn it into something complex, and nobody wants to read complex. We see that in the advice of copywriters, we see that in the tactics of Napoleon. What else do you need to accept it as truth?

The writer thinks:

A → B → C → D → E

But the AI outputs:

A → vaguely related sentence → C → elegant filler → E

So the pitfalls of air writing are not in the type of sentences or words it uses. Let it use em dashes as long as it’s conveying the point. Who cares? As long as it is getting the point across, it is getting the actions from your audience you wanted. Who cares? But what is actually the problem is the under explaining that it is doing the points that it is skipping.

The main problem with AI writing is not that it is writing complicated sentences or it is writing complex words. Because with a single prompt you can turn them into simple sentences and simple words. The problem is the missing context. And that missing context will lead to lower quality communications and lower persuasion in the mind of audience.
