Invest in the skill tree.

As a human, there are a lot of things that one can do.

But even though those things exist, they are not always available.

You can think of the world like a video game where much of the map is locked.

Those locked portions stay locked until you do something to unlock them.

Possibilities become real, or at least become potential, only after you take action.

Actions themselves are not floating around freely

You can only do them if you have the skills to do them.

So, it becomes very meta when you think about it.

At the bottom of the funnel is reality, the actual thing that happens.

Above that are actions, the steps that could lead to that reality.

At the top of the funnel are skills, because skills are what allow those actions to be taken.

If you do not know the skill, then you cannot take the action.

And if you cannot take the action, that version of reality never gets created.

So the skill is the actual unlocker that makes the possibility something you can move toward.

Let’s say a man is walking around in a city.

If he does not know how to read, a lot of the city stays locked for him.

He cannot access many opportunities, even if he is standing right in front of them.

He cannot notice many things, because he does not have the tool to interpret what’s in front of him.

He cannot understand things that are written, so it’s as if they don’t exist for him.

But the moment he learns how to read, a lot of things suddenly become accessible to him.

A lot of possibilities now become unlocked, because he knows how to take the action of reading.

Now that he can read, he can use this action in multiple ways.

He can teach someone else how to read.

He can provide the service of reading something for someone else.

The skill of reading lets him take new actions, and those actions can lead to new outcomes.

That is why skills are very important.

Skills are the things that unlock possibilities into something that can turn into reality.

If you do not have the skill, then the possibility remains locked forever.

This is why you must learn skills that the world really, really values.

If you learn a valuable skill, then a huge portion of the world unlocks to you.

And that portion of the world is not just unlocked, it is also lucrative.

Now let’s take it a bit further.

Let’s say you know two or three distinct skills.

Let’s imagine again that each skill unlocks a different part of the city.

Now all those different parts of the city are accessible to you.

You are not restricted to just one zone anymore.

You can be the merchant who is carrying out trade between all three zones.

You are taking something from one area and bringing it to another.

You can combine the actions made possible by each skill.

This lets you operate across those unlocked areas in useful ways.

So you have to think like that.

You have to understand that skills unlock actions, and actions unlock reality.

A man who does not have skills cannot conquer much of the reality.

Everything starts from your skills, and skills start from learning.

So you have to learn.

You have to learn skills that unlock the future you want.

You have to first envision what kind of future you want to live.

Then you have to understand what kind of actions are needed in that future.

Then you have to figure out what skills are needed to take those actions.

And then you must ask what you need to learn to build those skills.

That is the full chain.

Tbh this makes sense, we see a lot of marketing content about educating the audience. Seminars, educational/commentary reels and how to guides can be an example of it. Because we educate them, we unlock a huge dimension of actions for them. And some of those actions will be highly beneficial for them and we say hey our product or idea can help you with that action.

And I believe that explains influence too. When we are educated about who the person is (know them) or what they are capable of, we understand the actions they can take. And that understanding can lead to opportunities for that person. If we know that guy sings well, we can hire him for our project or recommend him to someone we know who is looking for a singer. Thus you have to take actions that educate the world who you are. By teaching the world about marketing, you are also teaching some businessman in your audience that you know marketing. An that businessman may have some use for you.
